A lyrical reflection by Kiamesha Smith on the form and rhythm of Remnants of Her Soul, written for women carrying heavy lives and limited time. This post explores how the book offers truth, clarity, and healing in small, breathable moments that meet women exactly where they are.

There’s something I’ve learned about women —

especially women who carry a lot.

We don’t always have the space

for long chapters,

long explanations,

or long anything.

Life doesn’t pause for us.

Healing doesn’t wait.

Clarity doesn’t show up when the house is finally clean

and the laundry is folded.

Most days, we’re trying to breathe

in between everything else.

In between spilled milk.

In between diaper changes.

In between a business call in the car.

In between the school pickup line.

In between cakes rising in the oven

and kids finally napping.

That’s why this form came the way it did.

Not polished.

Not perfect.

Not planned.

Just honest.

Just necessary.

Just enough

for the moment I was in.

And somewhere in that rawness,

I realized —

women don’t need more pages.

They need more truth.

Truth they can hold.

Truth they can return to.

Truth they can breathe through

without feeling overwhelmed.

This book and the way

it was written —gives that.

It gives space

without taking time.

It gives clarity

without demanding energy.

It gives healing

without needing a whole afternoon

to sit still.

It gives you a moment —

a real moment —

to hear yourself again.

And I think that’s why it works.

Not because it’s clever.

Not because it’s new.

Not because it breaks rules.

But because it meets women

exactly where they are —

in the middle of the mess,

in the middle of the transition,

in the middle of “Lord, I’m trying,”

in the middle of a life

they didn’t plan

but are still showing up for.

There’s a rhythm to it —

a way the lines breathe,

a way the pauses settle,

a way the words land softer

because they’re not fighting for space.

It feels like someone sitting beside you,

not talking at you.

It feels like a sister leaning in,

not a teacher standing over you.

It feels like God whispering something steady

when everything else feels loud.

And maybe that’s the real gift

of this form —

it doesn’t ask you

to escape your life

to understand it.

It steps into your life

with you.

So if you’ve ever felt too tired to read,

too overwhelmed to process,

too stretched to sit with a full chapter…

this form was made

with you in mind.

Not to rush you.

Not to fix you.

Just to give you a place

to land

for a moment.

A breath.

A truth.

A reminder.

A little light

you can carry with you.

Because sometimes, sister,

that’s all we need.
